Buying a foreclosed property before the bank lists it as available?

Sorry if this comes off as confusing. My husband and I have been following a property that has now been foreclosed on, the bank took possession about 2 months ago. Would it be possible for us to try and purchase the house from the bank now, or would we have to wait until they list it back up for sale? I thought about contacting them but not sure if it would be a huge waste of time to try and get to the right people.
