Do I need a lawyer if I already have a realtor

For context I live in California and the law doesn’t require me to hire a lawyer to buy property. My realtor seems to want me not to buy the property I’ve chosen. I offered on a different property last month and my realtor really pressured me at every step until I backed out. Now he’s slowing me down and told me to get a lawyer to review the contract (something he didn’t say last time). The real estate agency that he works for (that I hired) has lawyers on staff so I don’t understand why I need to pay for a lawyer as well. Do I need a lawyer or is my realtor being sketchy?
