Girlfriend took my houses, need real estate legal help

Asking for a friend: My ex is a control freak and insisted on managing my rental properties when we started dating 4 years ago. We have not been together for almost 2 years now, and she insists on retaining control of my finances. I am not a person of confrontation nor do I wish to involve the law in the matter, but I have a friend whom I would rather do the bookkeeping for me. The ex, let’s call her Voldemort, has access to bank accounts, rental income, and a small accumulation of savings I would use for repairs on the rentals. I happen to come across these properties for a good price and basically rent to people/friends/family for the cost of the mortgage-before anyone thinks I’m a slumlord or exploiting people for my gain, it’s actually the opposite. I am not particularly tech savvy and dread the thought of any difficult process it may require to circumvent Voldemort , plus I need to recover what cash I can from her as well as documents for next years taxes, if she’s willing to be civil enough to return them. She is not a nice person.

So my question to you, Reddit, is what should I do to facilitate control of my situation? I plan to see her in the next few days and I’m sick of letting her have her way. Just seeing if there’s a letter or like a cease and desist scenario where I can state I’m retaking control and that she has no power over me.

I just want to be done with the drama and never look back. I am in Virginia if that helps.
