Basically my husband and I are in a situation where we have to move out of where we live and move into my deceased mother’s house that has been sitting empty for a few months. My stepfather doesn’t live there anymore, but he’s paying for the mortgage for now.
We basically were hoping to take over the mortgage payments for my him. The only thing is, we cannot afford the mortgage payment on our own.
The home has a basement with a fully furnished kitchen, a bedroom and a living room. We’re hoping to rent it out so we can afford to stay in the house. The only thing is, I have absolutely no idea where to start when it comes what licenses I or my stepdad would need in order for him to rent out the home to us.
This is not something I am well versed in at all and needless to say, I’m extremely overwhelmed. Would any of you be able to put me in the right direction? Is what I’m wanting to do even possible?
I live in VA, so someone who is versed in commonwealth renting laws and procedures would be extremely helpful. I feel like I’m drowning.
