I have a daughter starting university this year in an engineering field. She has previously studied nursing but now wants to switch to engineering as she didn't like nursing and didn't see herself working in that field.

I am across the advances in AI (I work in the software field and with AI) and how quickly it is advancing in many areas with it now able to beat the most competent experts in many fields.

I have been apprehensive of her change as I am concerned when she graduates in 3 more years it will be even more advanced and the move to AI will be more entrenched.

Graduates in knowledge fields start with entry level positions and these are going to be decimated by AI. Sure the best of the best will find jobs but it will get incredibly competitive.

I told her she should stay in nursing as this is less likely to be affected in the near term. Fields that require a human touch or manual work have a bit longer until robotics can mature.

How do young people starting their degrees feel about this? Engineering, Computer Science, Law, Medicine. Most fields are looking likely to be heavily affected.

Hope i'm wrong about this but the latest developments are disturbing with talk of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) being imminent and even ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence) on the horizon.

Are new university starts talking about this and are universities addressing these concerns in any way?
