I Feel Like I’m Setting Myself Up for Failure as a Premed Student

I’m a first-year biochemistry major, and after my first semester, I’m feeling incredibly overwhelmed and scared for my future. This semester was rough. I took a heavy course load, and despite trying my hardest, I ended up with a C- in one class and a C in another. I’m worried that I’ve already ruined my chances of getting into medical school.

I really did try. I went to office hours, reached out for help when I could, and pushed myself as much as possible. But balancing everything — classes, assignments, and just life in general — felt like way too much to handle. Now, I’m terrified for my second semester. I feel like I’ve already fallen behind, and it’s hard not to feel like I’m setting myself up for failure.

Has anyone been through something similar and managed to turn things around? I’m feeling lost, and I could really use some advice or encouragement from people who’ve been in my shoes. Is it still possible to recover from a rough start like this and make it to med school? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance for reading this. I really needed to get it off my chest.
