I make 100k/yr and can’t afford a good home

Pretty much the title. I’m told that a mortgage payment shouldn’t exceed 25% of your net salary, which means that I can’t afford a decent home for me and my 2 daughters. I live on the EC in a low COL area. How is anyone able to afford a home right now?
