We're currently in the market to buy a house, move in, and sell ours right after. Little did we know how difficult that would be, we've been trying for almost a year. We've made strong offers on several homes. Every single time we are told to bid higher, so we make a strong escalation/follow up offer. Every single time our offer comes in second, and we're beat by 40-50k minimum. Every single time, when the house is marked sold, the final sale price only beats our offer by as little as $100-$1000. It's just a punch in the gut every time.
So buyers are knowingly making ridiculously high offers that they never intend to pay, then after the home is inspected/appraised they simply renegotiate to be just barely over the next highest offer.
Are we missing out by not using this strategy to auto-win an offer war? It seems to be working for everyone else...
