Hello everyone! So, I’m from Greece, 25 yrs old and I study applied mathematics at the best technological institution this country has. I studied my a$$ of to pass my exams (equivalent to SATs) and I successfully got admitted to applied math school. However, that was 8 years ago. You see, here in Greece, until recently, you could start and pause studying at uni unlimited times. You could get your degree even if you were 80 years old, because no one deletes us from the student registry for being inactive / dropouts. A government law changed that but it hasn’t been enforced yet. Long story short, some terrible things happened to my family while in my freshman year, so I stopped attending. Then I started working (to support family income) and 8 years went by. I still work (I run my own small business along my parents and brother) and a couple years past got a diploma (that doesn’t get recognized from state, though I learned a lot) on Web Development from a private school. Today, I saw IG stories from some former university acquaintances that they got their Diploma. That made me feel like crap. I like the academic field I chose, but it requires a hell of a lot studying and mental persistence that I cannot afford giving because I work Monday to Friday 9am-10pm and Saturdays 9am to 7pm.
Sometimes I think that maybe university wasn’t meant to be. Or, I get so envious of my acquaintances that they had the opportunity and family financial support to study for 8 years while having the time of their lives going to parties, vacations, trips etc. - things that I couldn’t and still can’t afford to do due to my parents' debt that I gradually pay off. And then I think: “In a couple of years I will have so much money that I will be glad that I didn’t waste my time studying”. But, still, I hate that I don’t have the time to complete my studies.
Do you think I should fight to get back studying at university or go on evolving my business?
I feel too old going back to school.
Thanks in advance
