Im applying to unis next year and i need help on what i should focus and work on to get accepted

I want to apply to university of Toronto (and more) but I’m an international student and don’t really know the rules or how western universities work. I’ve tried to search for the requirements and it said I only need a General Secondary Education Certificate, does that mean just my highschool grades/diploma? Should I also do the sats even if i doesnt mention it? Also how does the living on/off campus situation work? do I have to live on campus first year or can i live off campus. Um i hope this made sense but yeah if anyone could just give me a run down on the necessities i need for any uni as an international student, pls let me know. Thank you!!!
