I’m in grade 11, wondering if I should take a gap year.

So, university (sort of) around the corner and i’m currently deciding where to go. My mom is encouraging me to take a gap year to work, figure things out and take some extra highschool courses but.. I want to go into university with people my age. I know many people of many different ages attend university but, I really want to do residence (I live in Canada so its not as expensive as American schools) and don’t want to share a room/go to things with kids a year younger than me. + I have a late birthday so I would be entering university at 17. Searching for some advice from university students! Help a girl out!
