I’m under contract on a 1950 home that I’m really excited about. Nothing major came up during the regular inspection, but the inspector flagged rust on the exposed section of the cast iron sewer line in the basement. He noted that the pipe looked newer and was surprised to see rust like that, recommending that I have the line looked at before the due diligence period is over. I’ve called several companies now and been told that they do not conduct inspections for buyers, only sellers. The most highly recommended of the companies I contacted claimed this was industry standard, which I was surprised to hear given how frequently I’ve seen this come up here and on other real estate-related subreddits. Is this a thing? Or perhaps a thing specific to North Carolina? Any feedback appreciated.
