I'm in my first year and I recently took an exam for a course where the requirements for passing changed during the semester. Originally, the multiple-choice section required 10 points to pass, but it was later updated to 11. Unfortunately, I scored 10/20 on that section, along with 8/10 (4/5) on the essay portion, leaving me just one point short of passing.
What makes it extra frustrating is that for one of the multiple-choice questions, I was torn between two answers and picked the wrong one. I feel like my essay score reflects that I understand the course material well, but now I’m in a situation where I may have to retake the entire exam because of one point.
I’ve already reached out to the professor, explaining the situation and asking if there’s any chance for flexibility, such as additional work or reconsideration, but I’m not sure how likely that is. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Do you think professors are ever willing to accommodate something like this?
I’m not expecting miracles, but the idea of redoing everything for just one point feels frustrating, especially since the original passing threshold was 10 points. Any advice or opinions on this? :/
