I am applying to the University of Leeds' Interdisciplinary Science with Foundation Year with the goal of progressing into a Dentistry degree. As part of the application process, Applicants applying for progression onto healthcare-related courses have to complete a Lifelong Learning Centre’s Supplementary Form, which assesses applicants based on their demonstrated interest in their chosen field, relevant work or voluntary experience, and evidence of mathematical and problem-solving skills. It is used ALONGSIDE my personal statement.
There are four sections to this that i had a week to complete from the 21st October, i completed it the next day but my dad NEEDED to see it or he loses his shit. but he waited till the 27th to even look at it. He said it was completely fine, but RIGHT BEFORE i was about to send it off he brings up something that he thinks is needed.
In section 2 the prompt was: What work experience (voluntary or paid) have you had? What skills did you use in these experiences that would transfer into a health based role?
I answered with my experience in volunteering at a nursing and residential home and tutoring. i had already used 408/500 words i had available.
My dad starts arguing with me after he brought up that i should add my experience of shadowing a dentist in the less than 100 words i have left. I already talked about in my personal statement and i don't believe it even answers the question at all because i didn't "use any skill", i just watched a mf work and they specified volunteer or paid work. But he started losing his shit, calling me stupid for taking the question so literally, even starting to insult how i answered another section.
His argument was based entirely around a fkn chat gpt answer, saying shadowing counts as volunteer work and how it's a hands on observational skill, i kept saying i didn't do shit except watch and learn and me adding it would just look like i'm talking for the sake of talking.
i submitted the form anyway without adding it.
He's fully convinced i'm so stupid for not listening to him, it's the next day and he's still going off on my mum. My spineless mum just goes on his fkn side.
He does stuff like this all the time, even did this with my UCAS application even though he had seen it multiple times but pushed it off till the day before to submit. i submitted it the morning without checking with him one last time and he lost his shit because "he asked me too, and i just did that to insult him"????
i just wanted to post this as some sort of closure, i keep second guessing myself and i can't even concentrate on studying because i'm so stressed. Was i right for not adding it?
