My parents are selling our house in another state. We also both live in different states from the state the house is in. The day the papers need to be signed apparently, they will not be able to make it. We had originally planned to go down there together (I was only helping pack up the house) but plans changed last minute on their end and I am now going alone. They will not be able to come until some days after the signatures are needed.
The option to do it all virtually came up but according to my parents, it’s going to cost extra money or something and it’s easier to have someone do it in person. I’m not entirely comfortable about being a stand in as I had no part in setting up the selling in the first place but out of familial duty, I am helping.
Is there any liability I should be aware of being given power of executor in this context? I’m not well versed yet with real estate but I don’t want to be in a financial bind or anything else I should be aware of.
(Please don’t bash my parents. I only want advice on how to handle this.)
