Professor refusing to let me take an exam worth 35% of my grade because I was 15 minutes late

I was late because of traffic jam. I started heading 40 minutes earlier which was more than enough to get there on time. But this was simply out of my control. I apologized for being late as I entered the auditorium, and asked if I am allowed to participate, to which I got a negative response. I was ready and had no problem with taking the exam with the remaining time, even though I was 15 minutes short. However, that was impossible for some reason. I asked if it would be possible for me to take the exam some other time, but to my disappointment that was denied too. As a result of this, I lost 35 points out of possible total of 100 - not because my knowledge was unsatisfactory, but because I was late. I didn't know we were being graded on our time management skills, and not the accumulated knowledge on the given subject matter. It feels unfair. I have been studying for this exam for a long time, I am sure of my knowledge, only to be denied an attempt at proving it. And why - because of unlucky circumstances that can happen to quite literally anyone at some point in their life. I have to mention that I attended every single lecture, never skipped and was never late to any of them. I feel completely discouraged to put anymore effort into this course, especially after knowing that, besides not being treated like a human being but a machine, I am being graded based on if I show up on time and not my knowledge on the given subject matter.

Has anybody else gone through a similar situation, and if so, how have you conducted yourself? Which steps have you taken to resolve this? What do you suggest I do? If you have any ideas, please share, I would appreciate it!
