Sheriff's Auction

I'm curious what others' experiences are with buying homes/land at auction. I went thru it for the first time a couple months ago and bought some land (30 acres) at a fraction of the appraised value which turned out to be very beneficial. Has anyone else purchased a home at a sheriff's/ (or other) auction? What was your experience? Are you satisfied with your purchase?
