We want to sell our home and buy a house in another state. In order to buy, we need to sell our existing home first. We are considering moving to our destination state as soon as we list, temporarily staying in a pet-friendly Airbnb or hotel , and putting our stuff in storage while we search for our new home.

I've read on this sub that including a contingency that our current home sells in an offer has a lower chance of being accepted by a seller.

The area we are moving to has a surplus of homes for sale. According to Rocket Homes, homes in the area we are moving to have an average of 62 days on the market, and homes in the area we are selling in have an average time of 14 days currently.

What is the best strategy for timing the search for our new home given this? Is it best to start searching for our new house as soon as we arrive in our destination state (after listing) or is it better to wait until we hit a milestone with our home sale such as offer received and accepted, under contract, sale was already closed, etc?
