I sold my house back in 2023. Title company held escrow to pay off property taxes. Fast forward to October 2024 I get a "second notice" letter from an attorneys office stating I am delinquent on property taxes on the property I sold in 2023. I also received an escrow refund check around the same time (Oct 2024). I emailed my realtor and title company. Both were confused as to why this was. The title company even stated they received a 0 balance letter from the county. After 3 months of back and forth the title company states that the tax lien on the property sold in 2023 is there and that they are willing to pay the penalties and interest accrued if I pay the tax amount which is about $3k. Should I pay this/do I have to? The title company admits its their fault for the oversight. What would happen if I don't pay it?
ETA: The title company said that when they received a 0 balance letter from the county, it was actually for the buyers account and not mine.
