(first ever reddit post)
So I am 21F who recently received an offer from University of Montana Missoula to join a graduate program with a stipend and TA position. Still waiting to hear back from some other schools, one of which being YALE.
I guess I am making this post to ask what Missoula is like? I am a queer woman who is pretty androgynous/masc presenting. Is Missoula a safe place for me? Is the University? How safe is Missoula in general in terms of crime? Is there night life I can take part in or any fun activities? I am overweight/obese and am trying to get in shape and I understand there is lots of outdoor activities. Are there additional indoor activities? I am interested in looking into climbing gyms and boxing gyms. Neither of which I have done before so would these hypothetical places be beginner friendly?
I have many questions. This move would be completely across country so if I made the move, I would have to learn how to deal with more than 3 inches of snow!
TLDR: I might be moving from GA to MT for a graduate TA position. How welcoming is Missoula? Should I be excited about this offer or look forward to hearing back from YALE?
P.S. I’m also looking into cars that are well equipped for travel and snow. As I will probably be driving the distance to Missoula and using it year round as I live up there. So, if anyone has suggestions about what kind of vehicle I should look into please feel free!!
