I began finishing my basement last year. Due to unforeseen circumstances, that project is currently on hold.
There are four rooms: a living area that you enter from the upstairs, a laundry room, a bathroom, and an office. The basement itself is 900sqft or so and these areas represent roughly 2/3rds of that space.
As of now only the office, a 100sqft room is the only room that is complete (drop ceiling, can lights, vinyl floor, drywall, paint, door) and you must walk through partially finished areas to access it. The rest has most of the drywall hung and in various stages of mudding with no flooring, overhead lighting, ceilings, or doors in place. The "bathroom" is framed but there is no electrical ran or drywall hung. The current state of the basement has no impact on the usability of the the main floor of the house.
How much of an impact does this have on the value of my home and in what direction? My hunch is that, in its current state, my home has probably either not gained value or lost value.
I realize that more details would help give a more specific answer but at this time I'm just looking for a general idea of what to expect if I were to have the house appraised in its current state.
