What should you do when you’re at a university you don’t really like?

Yeah I know, you're like immediately why would you not leave? Well I am gonna explain this. I am at a university to play a sport and that was my sole reason of finding this place. It's in a small town that's 9 hours away from my home and I'm really missing home. It's got my degree and I have met some awesome people and my schedule is great. It's just everytime I come back from breaks I'm depressed. I really miss home but I really wanted this opportunity, and I don't like making the drive out here. I felt like if I stayed home I wouldn't really change or grow or learn anything. It seems like there's no right options for me to transfer because all my check boxes are in this university except location. What do you guys think I should do or how should I handle it? Any similar scenarios and advice? One day I seem fine with it and like "I can do it" the next day all I want to do is come home. It also stops me from working at a place I really want to in the summer. It's also my freshman year.
