Why is University so hard?

I used to be a good student in High school, when I put effort on my work. This allowed me to get into a top university in Europe. Now in Univeristy, I have been struggling so much in the math related subjects, such as Calculus and Linear Algebra. I genuinely don't understand what's going on with me, I was an excellent math student in High school, it was not like the math background I have is bad, it is actually pretty advanced. The only excuse I have is that I did the British curriculm which is slightly different than the national one, so I don't know much about limits as the national students do. I'm miserably failing those subjects and passing the other ones. Have you ever been through this? Does it get better? I'm starting to feel very demotivated.
