So I got a notice in the mail that my property taxes had been protested. I had never asked for that to take place. I saw the notice of the value, it was under my purchase price, so I shrugged and figured that was fine. Later I got a notice the taxes had been protested and to contact them if it wasn't me who did so.
Like most places, property values are up ALOT in the last 6-7 years. The property was less than half the price it goes for now, but in it's prior state it needed a lot of work, so I'd say realistically a 30% change. Is some other local homeowner freaking out that these property values might be the new normal? One side of me wants to root for the taxes to go down, the other side is worried that if the taxes are depressed, so will my home value when the time comes to sell.
